Ghana Free Time

How much free time is there during the program?
Ample time is available after the work day and on weekends to enjoy the numerous nearby natural and cultural attractions.

What are free-time options?
Freetime In GhanaDuring the week, volunteers often use their evening free time to explore the village, walk on the beach or visit larger towns nearby. On a weekend you can visit the Cape Coast/Elmina area, an unforgetable place where slaves were jailed before being shipped to the "New World." You can also visit Kumasi in the Ashanti region in central Ghana. The Ashanti area is noted for its local industries such as wicker work, pottery, wood carving (especially stools), and kente cloth weaving. This trip can include visits to the palace of the Asantehene, the Ashanti king, to the National Cultural Center and to Bonwire, where kente cloth originated.

Will Global Volunteers arrange free time for me?
No. Because Global Volunteers is a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, our team leaders and consultants are prohibited from making non-program-related arrangements for you, although they can provide advice on activities explored and enjoyed by previous teams.
