Global Volunteers was granted Special Consultative Status with the United Nations in 1999. This positions Global Volunteers to
represent local leaders in an international arena, and to engage short-term volunteers in
community development efforts with long-lasting results.
The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is responsible for "promoting higher standards of living, full employment, and economic and social progress; identifying solutions to international economic, social and health problems; facilitating international cultural and educational cooperation; and encouraging universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms."
We participate with United Nations agencies and programs to help meet the U.N. Millennium Development Goals, thereby ensuring the safety and development of children and ending hunger and poverty worldwide.
